Daily Herald News Article-Mihkenna

Here is a neat news article that explains Mihkenna's illness and how she has been doing since her surgery. This family still has costly medical expenses to cover and any help would be appreciated.

It was so great to work with Kiley, Tess, and Janett for the month of December. So much good can happen when people come together to share their talents and gifts.

This is just 4 of us...there are so many more people that have devoted so much time and love for Mihkenna. We alone cannot change the world, but we each can do something, and then the results from our combined efforts becomes something larger than it ever could have been, this is
the Ripple Effect.

In November I told Kiley about the Giving Tree project that my family and I have done for 3 Christmas seasons and were working on our 4th. Kiley got so excited and new she wanted her family to participate. She made some adorable ornaments with her children and shared them on social media. Then, Tess saw pictures on FB and asked Kiley all about it. At that moment Tess knew that this was what she wanted to do to help raise money for Mihkenna. I like to think of Kiley as our connector...she brought the Giving Tree and the people of Springville together. Kiley called me and told me about Mihkenna and how Tess wanted to do the Giving Tree to raise funds. That very day Kiley, Tess, Janett, Kathy, and I all got together to discuss what each of us could do to get this ball rolling. Within 1 week we had cut and drilled holes in over 2,000 wooden discs. Tess collaborated with many local businesses and events. On Kiley's birthday, KSL came over to her house where we were having a Giving Tree party to decorate ornaments to sell for Mihkenna's Fundraiser. After the party, as the 4 of us sat around Kiley's kitchen table adding up funds that had been raised thus far, and discussing what we needed to do next, the owners of Funfinity came over and generously told us that they would like to donate all of their profits made the Saturday before Christmas to Mihkenna! We all clapped for joy, and Tess jumped up and down and cried. This was truly, a beautiful moment. I took pictures of ornaments we made and emailed them to Janett. Janett made an awesome listing on KSL explaining Mihkenna's illness and the ornaments we were making to raise money. The very next day a lawyer from SLC drove down to Springville and gave a generous check for Mihkenna. He left with only 1 stamped, sparkly elk ornament in his hands. This is not only a Christmas miracle for Mihkenna, but, a Christmas miracle for all of us involved in her fundraiser, because we get to see first-hand the Christmas spirit in action, where people open their hearts and give of their love, their time, their talents, and their money. While the Giving Tree project really has only made a dent in the amount of funds Mihkenna needs, we hope that this project reaches the hearts of many more and that kind-hearted people will still be willing to find a way to support Mihkenna if they are able to.
